What is Earth Hour?

Every year in March, millions of people across the globe unite to show that they care about the future of our planet, by switching off for one hour.

WWF’s Earth Hour is one of the world’s largest grassroots environmental movements. It brings the world together, shines a spotlight on the climate and nature crisis, and inspires people to act and advocate for urgent change.

Why is it so important?

We’re in a race against time.

In the UK and around the world, nature – our life support system – is in crisis. We all need nature and nature needs us to stand up for it every day. We all have a part to play. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge but together we can be part of the solution.

With half the world’s population set to vote in 2024, never has it been more important to show our leaders we must tackle the nature and climate crisis with urgent action. By switching off and giving an hour for earth you’ll be helping to bring our world back to life. That means more space for nature, a more stable climate, and healthier more affordable food, so people and wildlife can thrive.
