BLAKE's Earth Hour UK anthem
An innovative four-piece band, BLAKE got together through Facebook in September 2007. Four young men with an ardent desire to sing on a global stage, BLAKE have successfully combined opera and pop to create a magical formula that’s stunned critics and wowed fans.
A positive public reaction led to their first album, 'BLAKE', becoming the UK’s best-selling classical debut of 2007.
They first linked up with WWF when they took time out from their hectic Danish tour in December 2009 to join demonstrations at the Copenhagen climate summit.
This established their reputation as a band with an acute awareness of environmental and social issues. At the climate summit BLAKE played a special concert while dressed up in panda suits (as seen here) to help raise awareness of climate change.
While they were there, all four members of the group did their bit to light up Copenhagen’s main Christmas tree by cycling to power a dynamo with clean, low-carbon electricity.
One of the band’s favourite moments at Copenhagen was being given the honour of holding the WWF People’s Orb (left), a globe containing the messages of thousands of Earth Hour supporters worldwide, which was passed to the head of the UN at the summit.
BLAKE have also performed at the opening ceremony of Wimbledon 2009, and toured Denmark, Australia and Japan. Celebrity fans apparently include Keira Knightly and Kevin Spacey.
Their third album, 'Together', was originally released in October 2009, but will be re-released as a Special Edition on 22 March 2010 with bonus tracks including WWF-UK's Earth Hour anthem, ‘Beautiful Earth’.
