This year, we need your help raise money to help to create a bright future for the Mau Mara Serengeti – one of the most spectacular places on Earth and home to one of richest collections of wildlife in the world. This incredible landscape also supports the livelihoods of more than one million people who depend on the precious natural resources around them.
But this fragile environment is under threat. The delicate balance of life is under immense pressure, due to people’s increasing demand for land and resources, and the effects of climate change.
All of the money raised through Earth Hour will support WWF’s work to address the challenges being faced throughout the region, from tackling human wildlife conflict to providing local wildlife rangers with much needed equipment and training.
- £5 could provide food for a ranger for a day’s monitoring wildlife in the field – rangers work very long hours and are often out in the field overnight when working in remote locations.
- £25 could provide a solar powered torch to help keep people and their crops safe from lions and elephants when moving around at night.
- £50 could provide training for 25 farmers in the Mara in use of effective methods to deter elephant’s crop raiding, such as the use of chilli fencing.
Here are a few ideas:
Host an Earth Hour dinner party: Celebrate the hour with your partner, friends or family and have a candlelit dinner that you know is good for you and for the planet too.
Wear it bright: You could plan a bright themed party (glow in the dark face paint is optional!) and hold a competition amongst your friends to see who’s best dressed on the night. Why not suggest they give a small donation to support WWF.
Plan a Cake Sale: Put your piny on and get baking. Challenge your friends to create star-themed cakes and treats to raise funds for Earth Hour. You can even award a star baker!
Thanks for your support.
