Join councils, businesses, organisations and communities across the UK for WWF’s Earth Hour to show your support for a world with a brighter future.
WWF’s Earth Hour 2012 will continue to keep environmental issues on the agenda and inspire global change. But we also recognise that change needs to happen in the way we live as communities and within society. Councils have a vital leadership role to play in helping to achieve this, not only by taking action to reduce your own environmental impact but also by engaging and raising awareness of climate change and sustainability within your local community, local businesses and with other public bodies.
WWF’s Earth Hour is a great opportunity for you to demonstrate your commitment to the environment, showcase your existing environmental work and engage with your communities.
Get involved:
- Simply sign up now and switch off all non-essential / signage lighting at your town hall, civic centre and other landmarks on Saturday 31 March at 8.30pm – 9.30pm
- Help us reach as many people as possible. You can promote Earth Hour to your staff, suppliers and contacts through your website, newsletters, social media channels or any other way you like! Check out our guide on ‘How to spread the word’
- Increase the impact of your switch off. Help persuade local businesses and other organisations to turn off the lights in iconic or important buildings or structures in your area
- Why not encourage local groups – schools, workplaces, streets, villages, pubs or clubs – to plan their own Earth Hour events.
- Find out how your council can continue to take actions that last beyond the hour.
