We want to hear all about what your school is doing to celebrate Earth Hour. Please send us your stories along with any photos and we will publish your stories on this page.
ACS Hillingdon International School, Middlesex
We celebrated Earth Hour in our school on Friday, the day before the actual day. Our eco club members had put fliers around the school. They had gone to every homeroom to show the Earth Hour 2012 film and students wrote their plan on how they are going to contribute to Earth Hour. Posters were displayed in the hallway and were appreciated by staff and parents. Every teacher contributed by having at least two lessons without use of electric energy. It was a great success.

Staff needed sunglasses for the day when youngsters arrived at school dressed in bright coloured clothes to try and raise awareness of Earth Hour. Members of the school’s Eco Council led the morning assembly and explained to the whole school about the importance of climate change and saving energy. To get the message across all year groups were asked to participate in a school based Earth Hour where lights and electric appliances were all switched off for an hour. Other activities included tree planting, making Earth Hour lanterns, writing pledges and designing posters and leaflets to promote the event that takes place on Saturday 31 March 2012.

Eco schools co-ordinator, Lynda Williams, said: ”This is the Fourth year running that we have supported the Earth Hour campaign and our children really enjoyed participating in the activities as well as learning about the impact individuals can have on the environment.
“Many children pledged to do one small thing to make a difference to our world including planting a tree in the garden, recycling rubbish better at home, playing less on computers and PlayStations, walking to school more and switching to stand by and turning off bedroom lights.

They are preparing PowerPoint presentations to show the younger children. In KS 1 the younger children are preparing posters or artwork to show why our world is brilliant. This is the fourth year we have taken part in Earth Hour. It is one of the most popular Eco activities we do in School and one which is also carried through to the whole School community including parents and careers.
